There was some buzz about it online and, of course, it caught my eye. I love Holly's post about it and its fickleness. I don't see how it helps writers become better at their craft, but it does make for some interesting dinner conversation.

Hi Anne!

How weird! My Mom emailed this very same link to me the day after you posted this! (I didn't see it until just now.) I did one of my blog posts and got some guy - he was an essayist - and I figured the only link was that blog posts are basically essays.

Then I input a bit from an abandoned WIP and got Stephen King. Fun stuff!

Have a good day! xo

[...] Anne Bender wrote about this nifty site where writers can go to find out who their literary influences really are. Or not, considering she learned that her writing was reminiscent of Neil Gaiman’s. Anne may be the only person left on the planet who has never heard of Neil Gaiman. I couldn’t resist trying it. What to feed the machine? How about a little bit of everything? [...]

Sometimes I feel as if I've walked onto the set of Green Acres. I haven't seen Arnold yet, but I did collect 30 eggs today and Dwayne did teach me how to drive the big tractor.

The book does sound interesting.

Sounds like fun! I always loved Green Acres... ;) I'm not sure I WOULD survive, though some small part of me would like to try. It's a small part, though - one the bigger part would dearly love to snuff into nonexistence.

Seriously, the book sounds very interesting! I'll have to check it out.

We all love short tales, but the appeal of these works isn't just their brevity - short testimonies are usually the ideal genre for exploration, experimentation and the honing of your writing abilities. Some of history's most well-known authors, F. Scott Fitzgerald, John Steinbeck, JD Salinger, published noteworthy collections of their small fiction. Ernest Hemingway's excellent operates, including the Old Man and also the Sea are considered long small reports (or novellas) and are an extension of this genre. Short stories are brief and powerful in their succinctness. Good small tales have well developed characters, story lines and settings just like a full length novel. They're usually a great starting point for beginning authors enrolled in their very first innovative writing courses. And they're fun to write!
